Dick Dene
Cut from the same bolt as contemporary actor Thomas Jane (
The Punisher
, HBO's
Hung
), the Beefcake era's favorite cowboy Dick Dene was one of Bruce of LA's most ruggedly handsome and hairy-chested models. Usually presented in the great outdoors with chest hair surpassed only by the mane of the horse he often posed atop, and a smile matched only by the curve of the brim of his cowboy hat, Dene was 25 years old, six feet tall and of Lebanese/French descent. He was a bit actor who appeared in such Warner Brother classics as
From Here to Eternity.
Bruce of Los Angeles
Bruce Bellas was a school teacher in Omaha Nebraska before he motored West and began to produce "beefcake" photography under the name of Bruce of Los Angeles. He specialized in photographing muscular men, from the famous Southern California bodybuilders to Hollywood street trade. A prolific photographer and distributor, Bruce created some of the most classically beautiful and collectible images of the mid-20th Century.
Kensington Road
A photograph taken by Bruce Bellas in the 1960s, this Kensington Road beefcake print was produced in the 1970s. Kensington Road was a mail-order distributor, which mass-produced Bruce's images directly from his negatives after his death.
A fun bit of trivia: the company took its name from the road on which Bruce lived.
Condition
This 5-by-7-inch photo is beautifully printed on heavy stock and is in very good condition. Quality and clarity very good.
